Bearing in mind the founder of Facebook, a leading social media giant, Mark Zuckerberg started the social media right from his college days, you just feel that stage –tertiary institution- is one of the best stage for starting something great. Notable startups in Nigeria today also started from this stage. So, today, I’m going to highlight some startups that originated/were impacted from university days.

PushCV

PushCV, launched in 2014 is an online platform that enables pre-screened candidates link up with organizations that require their services.

The founders of this startup were students of Covenant University when they founded the platform. The founders of the platform are Somtochukwu Ifezue, Odunayo Eweniyi, Joshua Chibueze, Terry Kanu, Nonso Chinagorom, Ibukun Akinola and Ayo Akinola.

Jobberman             

Jobberman is a platform that provides millions of people across Nigeria with quality and updated information about employment opportunities.

The largest Nigerian job search portal was founded by three friends while still in the university. The three friends are Olalekan Elude, Ayodeji Adewunmi and Opeyemi Awoyemi. While studying at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), these innovative minds came up with a solution for unemployed people lacking access to get information about their intended jobs.

Strangely, the three friends who had passion for internet entrepreneurship were from different disciplines. While Ayodeji Adewunmi studied medicine, Opeyemi Awoyemi and Olalekan Elude studied Computer Engineering at that time.

CashEnvoy

Also from the Obafemi  Awolowo University (OAU) is another innovative founder, Olaoluwa Awojoodu.

CashEnvoy was founded by Olaoluwa while he was still in the university, with the ASUU strike in 2002 contributing to his entrepreneurship journey. It was in 2002 he started his first business of recharge card sales.

CashEnvoy is an online platform that enables businesses to receive payments from all debit cards in Nigeria.

ADE

ADE is one of the fastest growing digital solutions and marketing agency in Nigeria.

The founders of the platform, Samson Aligba and Michael Ebia gained much digital experience from their days in the University of Benin as graphic designers and running a printing business together.

These great minds have helped evolved the technology face in Nigeria. So, for that undergraduate out there that has a tiny idea, don’t throw away that idea, instead, nurture the idea and grow the idea into something productive and impactful.
