Asthma is a common long term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs. It is characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction, and bronchospasm. Symptoms include episodes of wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.

As of 2011, 235–330 million people worldwide are affected by asthma, and approximately 250,000–345,000 people die per year from the disease. Rates vary between countries with prevalences between 1 and 18%. It is more common in developed than developing countries.

This leading digital solution for respiratory medicine, today announced the closing of its $21.5 million Series C financing. The funding round includes new investors 3M Ventures, S.R. One, Limited and Hikma Ventures, and existing investors Safeguard Scientifics and Social Capital. Proceeds will be used to expand Propeller’s digitally-guided therapy platform and modernize the management of respiratory disease.
