Writer. Asides being a writer, I'm incredible!

The Nokia 6 has been in the news for a long time. Unsurprisingly, the Techproducts team has been giving the fans of technology in this region of the world regular updates about the record-breaking device. Record-breaking in the sense that when the device was launched in China, the device got sold out in one minute. How about that for a record?

Nokia, which went into a temporary extinction, that is, its sale to Microsoft, which signaled the end to the once mighty brand, and the resurrection with HMD Global getting the rights to produce anything Nokia. Just to know, HMD Global is a Finnish company that comprises of mostly the old Nokia’s employees. So we can say outright that Nokia has returned home. The brand made a come back with a new version of Nokia 3310. However, the Nokia 6 brand stands out, and that is why I have decided to give a review of the classy device.

Briefly before I go into the full details about the specifications of this device, I’ll quickly do a summary about some interesting features of the device. The device comes with the latest Android Nougat v 7.1.1 OS that shows the device’s readiness to tackle the big boys in the smartphone market. The device’s design is so classy that the manufacturers, HMD Global ensured the Nokia 6 design got patented. No kidding, the device comes with a star-studded 16MP rear camera and cutting into half the rear camera’s megapixel for the front camera, that is 8MP for the front camera. Interesting, how this is turning out, right? The device doesn’t have a dual camera but you just have to overlook it if you really put into good note the efforts this brand has made to bring back the once “can’t do without device”.

As for the summary, that will do for now. It’s time to go into the full details of the device. Grab an ice-cold drink and stay tuned.

What came to your mind when you saw Nokia 6? Is that the display size is 6 inches? No, It’s not 6 inches. That doesn’t mean the display size isn’t large. The device comes with a 5.5-inch display size. How about that for a classy smartphone? It ensures a classy viewing experience. Its panel is actually of the IPS LCD, and the resolution is 1080 x 1920 px. The IPS LCD has a covering of Gorilla Glass 3 on top, call that screen security. The Gorilla Glass 3 isn’t far from expected because the Nokia brand is known most notably before its temporary extinction to be a durable brand. That’s a one plus for the device.  The device’s dimension is 154 x 75.8 x 7.8mm. However, the weight of the Nokia 6 smartphone is 169g. This seems rather heavy for a smartphone of this display size.

When it comes to the area of connectivity, the smartphone manufacturer made everything wow but left a small “but”. That small but isn’t something that can easily be overlooked nonetheless. The smartphone featured a USB port 2.0, which is the old version of the USB port. A USB port version 3.0 would have made the connectivity section kiss the lips of perfection. Nevertheless, the connectivity section is good to go. Bluetooth version 4.1, WiFi connectivity, FM Radio are all included, as expected. GPS for positioning, 3.5mm audio jack and NFC are also on the device’s makeup. The device makes available two slots for nano SIMs. However, one of the nano SIMs has to be sacrificed if the user so wishes to use a microSD. The device supports the trending 4G connectivity. If this feature wasn’t added, we’ll just tell Nokia to go and sleep – just joking. Although, the 4G connectivity is not supported on the two nano SIMs slots. The 4G connectivity is supported on the first nano SIM, and the second supports only 2G connectivity.

There might also be a “but” in this category of the smartphone. Where smartphones such as Gionee M2017 come with a 6080mAh battery and Oukitel K10,000 comes with a 10,000 mAh battery, the Nokia 6 smartphone is available at a rather low 3,000mAh battery. This is mostly unexpected because the Nokia brand is known to be very long lasting battery-wise. If you take a good look at the price of the device, and Nokia’s status, you will note that the price wasn’t too high probably because of this reason. We should not forget something though – Nokia’s tiniest of things are of immense quality. This can be seen during the testing of the device’s battery life. On a 3G call, the device was noted to last for twenty-two and a half hours. Except if you’re want to talk more than expected, that time duration is just massive. The video playback time span was also tested, and it was seen that the device lasted for 10 hours. Considering the miniature battery size, and the time span it lasted during the testing, you’ll give the device a pass.

The device’s operating system is the Android Nougat v7.1.1. The chipset that the device runs on is the Snapdragon 430 with a frequency of 1.4GHz. This considered a very low chipset. Taking a look at LG G6 that runs on Snapdragon 821, and the latest Samsung S8 that runs on the most recent chipset -Snapdragon 835. The Nokia 6 device is being run on the mid-range Snapdragon chipset. This doesn’t denote that the device isn’t fast in processing but it’s not just as fast as these big names. Given the fact that the brand is just putting efforts together to make it big into the Android smartphone scenery, it’s a pass for me. Also, the GPU is an Adreno 505.

Let’s just say I can’t just stop being charmed by Nokia 6’s camera. A rear 16MP camera with a dual LED flash is more than enough to capture those special moments. What about the selfie camera? The front camera bags an 8MP size. The trend of cameras now is the dual camera at the back but Nokia 6 didn’t include that. That doesn’t really matter because the 16MP back camera is just enough to capture moments just the way they are.

The device is equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory! It’s a banging RAM and internal memory. It’s not expected to be lower than that because there are devices with even higher RAMs. Notwithstanding, the device has made the need for a microSD slot unnecessary.

It can be seen that on the overall, Nokia 6 really ticks the box of “beyond average”, and that’s to make a statement of intent from the Nokia brand. Nokia is ready to do a full face-off with the smartphone giants. Let’s see as time goes if succeeding Nokia brands can compete with the likes of iPhones, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Infinix and so on.
