During the World Mobile Congress 2017, which took place some weeks back, if you can recall well, HMD global unveiled some phones which included the Nokia 6, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and also the legendary revamped version of the Nokia 3310. While we are, we want to talk about the Nokia 5 smartphone, laying cognizance on its specs and what we feel about them.

If we were to place all the aforementioned smartphone on a dwindling scale, we would start from the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and then the Nokia 3310 (2017). Just stay with me while we walk through the specs of the Nokia 5 smartphone.

The Nokia 5 smartphone has a 5.2 inches display. If you ask people how many inch display they would prefer, some majority would say 5.0 inch while others would say 5.5 inch. But Nokia 5 might be just right to serve both parties by staying in the near middle.

The device has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a corning gorilla glass protection. The display type is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, that comes with 16M colors.

Talking about measurements, the Nokia 5 smartphone measures 149.7 mm in length, 72.5 mm in breadth and 8 mm in thickness. Even if the weight has not been confirmed yet, I’m pretty sure it won’t be too heavy – say around 130 – 140g. If our range is valid, then I’d say in the nearest future, nobody would have the time and man power to be carrying too heavy phones around. Even now, only few people do it, as lighter phones are taking over the market.

The phone has a Single SIM slot (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by), while it still also possesses the 3.5 mm audio jack.

The Nokia 5 smartphone possesses a 2 GB RAM, even though I am quite an advocate of a 3 GB RAM and above, I’d still have to forgive them in my mind, but I believe they could have done better than this.

For the storage of photos, music and videos, the internal memory of the Nokia 5 smartphone has been pegged at a 16 GB capacity. This same capacity can be expanded to the tune of 256 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

The Nokia device runs on an Android operating system v7.1 Nougat. It has an Octa-core Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 processor with processor speed of 1.4 GHz. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the front of the phone.

Another very important feature which is surely worthy of mention is the support of the Nokia 5 smartphone for the 4G LTE network. Just some months back, a “network revolution” occurred in our space and it feels good to know and see that all these phone manufacturers are very flexible as they were able to quickly move along with the trend and inculcate the 4G LTE support for their new phones.

On the rear, the Nokia 5 smartphone possesses a 13 MP camera quality which is a very fair one for me. The camera has phase detection autofocus, along with dual-LED (dual tone) flash, while on the front, it possesses an 8 MP camera.

The tradition of having front facing camera qualities lower than its counterpart has rubbed off on almost every smartphone maker. We are just left with makers like Gionee who think “selfie discrimination” shouldn’t even be a part of our agenda.

The battery capacity of the Nokia 5 smartphone is pegged at 3000 mAh, which might be just the standard battery capacity for many people like us. Once a smartphone possesses a battery capacity less than a 3000 mAh, I don’t think it will be generally accepted – now this is on a general note.

QUESTION: Would you purchase a smartphone with a battery capacity less than 3000 mAh?

  1. A nice model. Good size, preferable colours. Would’ve been greater if it had a 5000 mAh battery. Nevertheless, I’ve already ordered for one, cos, Nokia remains my number one. From Nokia Lumia 630 to Nokia 5. Can’t wait to start rocking it!
