A new development that intends to serve as a perk for employees tech companies have started with Microsoft as the lead is the building Tree house workspace. For Microsoft, the structures are part of a new system of outdoor work spaces within Microsoft’s Five hundred-acre Washington campus. The spaces are all Wi-Fi enabled and have benches with electricity plugs.

So far there is a total of three Tree houses by Microsoft. Two of them complete and now open to all employees while the last of them which is a sheltered lounge space, will be ready and available to the employees later in this year. Microsoft says the structures were built by Pete Nelson of the TV show “Treehouse Masters” and the project was started by “connecting with trees for hours”.

One the Tree houses is nestled in the bows of a Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir on the company’s Redmond, Washington campus. It serves as a meeting room, featuring the skylight which allows in “just a bubble of blue” and is more “Hobbit than HQ” according to a post on a Microsoft Blog.

Microsoft is also introducing the outdoor theme to more traditional buildings and structures by adding an out door area to its cafeteria, for instance, the new al fresco space will have rocking chairs and an awning that allows the Microsoft logo to shine through onto the grass below on sunny days. Worthy of note from Microsoft is that the introduction of the “outdoor theme living” is not all fun and games but the capability of the exposure to relieve stress and stimulate creativity plus the employees push for change. Bret Boulter who led the project and  works in Microsoft’s real estate and facilities division  said “People said, given the opportunity, they would work more outside,”
