Meizu Pro 6 is one smartphone watchers of Chinese OEMs were eagerly waiting for. Along with the Huawei P9 and the Xiaomi Mi5, Meizu’s Pro 6 is expected to be one of this year’s top Chinese flagship. Meizu Pro 6 was actually announced two weeks ago, and at that time it was pitched as the first smartphone to use MediaTek’s high-end Helio X25 chipset. And as we have seen with other smartphones spotting the Helio X25 chipset, the Pro 6 is also deca-core smartphone.

With a display size of 5.2″, the Meizu Pro 6 is slightly smaller than its predecessor the Pro 5. The very thin (7.3mm thick), metal unibody smartphone has a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to add to its impressive specs. If you know anything about the Apple’s 3D Touch, then you’d be familiar with a similar feature in Meizu Pro 6 called 3D press.

Like earlier mentioned, inside the phone is the top range MediaTek Helio X25 chipset supporting a cluster of ten-core processors clocked at between 1.4 and 2.5 GHz. The Meizu Pro 6 has a RAM of 4GB and an internal storage of either 32GB or 64 GB. There is no provision for a card slot to further expand the storage in both models.

There is a huge disparity between the rear and front camera specs of the Meizu Pro 6. The 21MP rear camera is equipped with Sony’s IMX230 sensor and a 10-LED ring flash. Selfie lovers have to make do with just a 5MP front camera which is also capable of recording 1080p videos.

For some reason, Meizu decided to reduce the battery capacity of their new flagship. Meizu Pro 6 has a 2560mAh battery as against the 3100mAh of the Meizu pro 5. One would have thought since the Meizu Pro 6 is going up against phones like Huawei P9 and Xiaomi Mi5, the battery could at least be 3000mAh like the other two. Meizu missed a trick there. Other notable specs include a fingerprint sensor; an mCharge 3.0 that can fully charge an empty battery in an hour; dual nano sim and USB-C data cable for fast exchange of data between the Meizu Pro 6 and connected devices.

In the final analysis, everything comes down to pricing. With about $390 one can get the 32GB variant in China and about $430 can get you the 64GB model in China. These are very competitive pricing for a phone with these specs. But this is to be expected as it seems the game now among Chinese OEM is to see who gets to produce the best phone at the lowest possible price.
