Kids of nowadays think that an SSD with a few gigs worth of capacity is a cold war relic fit for the museums. The truth remains that you or anyone else shouldn’t really blame them. They have virtually no idea of just how minute the SSD capacities of few decades ago were and just how cool it was to have a SSD of 40MB. Like almost everything about technology, the present capacity and speed of SSD today will almost certainly be laughable in the not so distant future. At California’s Flash Memory Summit, tech giants Samsung unveiled a 16 terabyte solid state disk drive. Of all cool names available, why the choose to call it; PM1633a is something we have to consult and encyclopedia about, but that wasn’t really my greatest surprise, it was the size and speed of this SSD that got me thinking. At 16TB capacity and 2.5 inch form factor, Samsung would definitly be the last technology firm I would expect to pioneer this feat. Lots of nerds think its a welcomed upgrade from Samsung, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if the think am weird for saying it’s certainly more than that. The highest-capacity conventional hard drives
from Western Digital and Seagate, for instance, peak at a maximum of 8 or 10TB, but Samsung of course went well beyond that. SSDs are on the march and the have already started to gain more ground and they’re only expected to grow even
further in the future. Samsung’s latest achievement is an important milestone in this digital voyage to replace traditional hard drives with SSDs.
At a worryingly large capacity of 16TB, and a size that fits into a 2.5″ hard drive enclosure, the world’s highest capacity solid state disk is birthed.

At an estimated price range of $5000 to $7000 , the size and capacity might seem like an unnecessary overkill for regular consumers, but given the fast rise of 4kvideos download and geometric pace of just technological advancement, having this around these early is definitely logical. Samsung’s 850 EVO, the SandDisk Extreme Pro, Crucial BX-100,crucial MX-200 and the Mushkin Reactor with price ranges of between $120 to $389 are budget freindly alternatives, with the mushkin reactor offering as much as 1TB capacity. The PM1633a is quite pricey but also quite awesome. For now I definitely do not recommend getting this Samsung’s new toy, unless for enterprise applications of course, yet personally if the opportunity shows it lovely face, I would stop at nothing to own one of these.

Nonetheless like every other technology in the market, sooner or later, when demand becomes almost a necessity for most consumers, there is only one way the price can go; and that’s down!. So if you were to get your hands on a PM1633a these are some reassuring stats to digest;
-you could store 3.8 million 4mb songs
-you could store 8000 2GB videos
-you could net 4000 4GB games
– its boast 120 times more storage than an entry-level MacBook Pro or MacBook Air
Samsung’s PM1633a managed to pack so much memory in it by stacking lots of flash cells on top of each other, which makes the drive slightly taller than others.this was possible using its new 256Gbit (32GB) NAND flash memory, which according to technology blog Ars Technica offers twice the capacity of conventional 128Gbit NAND flash chips that various chip makers commercialized in 2014. For this impressive density, Samsung crammed no less than 48 layers of 3-bits-per-cell (TLC) 3D V-NAND in just a single die, upping the number of layers from 24 in 2013 and 36 in 2014.
