The Consumer Electronics Show, one of the biggest tech events of the year, is round the corner. A slew of new devices is expected to be launched at the event to be held on Jan. 4-12 in Las Vegas.

While some smartphone companies are holding off their devices for the Mobile World Congress taking place in February, others are expected to showcase their new devices at the CES.

One of such devices which would be showcased at CES 2017 is what we are about to talk about now – the LG Stylus 3. This devices could be fairly said to be an upgrade to the LG Stylus 2, a device which was announced at the 2016 MWC event.

The LG Stylus 2 was said to be the first device to feature DAB + technology which is a digital radio standard that it can carry more advanced data than FM RDS and features things like caching, similar to Internet streaming (but it’s free and requires no carrier data).  But since the big bro is here, let’s take a look at how much upgrade they’ve done to it.  Let’s roll…

TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN

Let’s start with the outlook of the phone before any other thing. The LG Stylus 3 is a 5.7 inches HD screen – exactly the same size with its predecessor (LG Stylus 2). It measures 155.6 mm in length, 79.8 mm in breadth and 7.4 mm in thickness. With this measurements, I don’t think the phone would be a light one though.

It runs on an Android Operating System, v7.0 (Nougat) and comes with an improved MediaTek processor designed to handle several tasks efficiently without draining the battery faster.

HARDWARE & MEMORY

If you followed my last phone review on the Samsung J3 Emerge, I was lamenting the fact that a Samsung phone possesses a 2GB RAM. Now here’s LG showing them how to entice people with a 3GB RAM. This 3GB RAM is double of the LG Stylus 2 which came with a 1.5GB. Internal storage is 16GB but can sure be expanded with a micro SD card up to 256GB.

It possesses a Mediatek MT6750 processor and the sensors available include  Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, proximity and compass sensors.

CAMERA

Don’t you just love a phone with a 13MP camera at the rear and a front facing 5MP camera. But there is a concern here. Why would the LG Stylus 2 possess an 8MP front facing camera while this one has less. Aren’t we supposed to be upgrading? I’m sure LG would have a good reason for doing that, but on my side, its a turnoff.

On a lighter note, let’s hope selfie takers would make use of the rear camera better.

MULTIMEDIA AND CONNECTIVITY

The phone supports the WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct and hotspot. Its Bluetooth is v4.2 and it supports GPS with A-GPS, GLONAS. USB is a microUSB v2.0

BATTERY

First, the battery is removable. Second, it is a 3200mAh battery, a notable upgrade from the 3000mAh which the LG stylus 2 possessed.

If you ask me about this, I’d say I love the battery most. To humans, “water is life”, but to phones, “battery is life”.

PRICE

The LG Stylus 3 Price In Nigeria & Kenya Should range from N45,000 and Ksh 15,000. If you ask me, I think its a fair price and also feel it should be able to compete amongst other phones in the same category as it.
