LG K8 (2017) price in Nigeria, Kenya, specs and review

Writer and Social entrepreneur.

If these three (3) LG phones – LG stylus 3, LG K10 (2017) and the LG K8 (2017) – were to be placed on a ranking scale, the LG stylus would surely come out on top in terms of specifications, size and almost every other thing else, which would be closely followed by the LG K10 (2017) and then the LG K8 (2017). However, we are here to talk on the LG K8 (2017).

The LG K8 (2017) is an upgraded version of the 2016 version, which was launched at the MWC event earlier this year. The 2017 variant would be launched alongside the aforementioned smartphones at the CES event taking place very early in 2017.

Just like others in the “K” series, this device comes as a mid-ranger and with a brilliant screen resolution. Lets talk about it…

Firstly, taking the size of the phone into consideration, we would ascertain that it is not as big as the LG Stylus 3 as it measures 144.8mm in length, 72.1mm in breadth and 8.1mm in thickness with a weight of 142g. the screen of the phone measures 5.0 inches which is definitely not too impressive to someone like me. I mean, who doesn’t love a phone with a wider screen? No one.

It runs on an android operating system, v7.0 (Nougat) and has a Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 processor. Its 2016 variant ran on the android 6.0 marshmallow – its good to keep up with modern day realities, nice upgrade.

This is the part where mid-range smartphones don’t too impress me and a few others. The LG K8 (2017) possesses a 1.5 GB RAM, exactly the same as its 2016 variant – don’t these guys prioritize what they upgrade? It also has an internal memory of 16 GB which of course, can be expanded to the size of a mere 32 GB with the use of a micro SD card. I must register my displeasure also on the size of the internal storage – it is a very poor one to me, even though it was an upgrade.

As stated earlier, it possesses a Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 processor and sensors available are the accelerometer and proximity sensors with as you would expect, no fingerprint sensor.

The rear camera was upgraded a bit while the front facing camera was left at same quality from the last variant. The primary (rear) is pegged at 13 MP, which is a remarkable increase from the previous 8 MP possessed by the 2016 variant while the secondary (front facing) is pegged at just 5 MP – the same as the previous one.

Well, given the range of the phone, I am hoping selfie takers would try and be satisfied with the picture quality this camera would produce and accept that they are only getting what they actually paid for – we would understand better when we get to the price segment.

Just for reference purposes, the LG Stylus 3 also has a 13 MP camera and a front facing 5 MP.

The battery is a removable Li-on 2500 mAh battery, which was increased from the 2125 mAh battery present in the 2016 variant. The LG Stylus 3 seemed to have topped the other two as expected in terms of battery life with a 3000 mAh battery, which actually made me give the phone big ups.
