Iyin Aboyeji, who co-founded Andela before moving on to another venture has been nominated amongst others for this year’s The Future Awards Africa. Iyin, who is currently the head of Flutterwave, a FinTech company has made much impact and had great ventures in the Nigerian tech scene and beyond. Just some weeks back, Flutterwave was nominated and won an award as the best FinTech company in Africa.

The award for this year is themed “Nigeria’s New Tribe’’ and will take place on December 9 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.

According to Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, Chairman, Central Working Committee, The Future Awards Africa, she made known that the award was put in place to celebrate and accelerate innovation among Nigerians aged 18 to 31. This age range sums up the future of Nigeria. She also went further to say that the TFAA acknowledges inspiring young people making a difference through social enterprise, social good and creativity.

This year’s edition of the award is organised in conjunction with The Future Project. A project which has the mandate to build and empower citizens across Africa. This would be done through inclusive enterprise and active citizenship.

The Future Awards Africa is regarded as the “Nobel Prize for Young Africans’’, and the “most important youth awards’’ by Forbes.So far, The Future Awards Africa have had up to 150 winners and over 1,550 nominees since its first edition in 2006.

This is a well soothing news for the tech ecosystem in Nigeria as it speaks volume of the fact that the sector is now been acknowledged in the scheme of things. We do wish Iyin Aboyeji the best, and hope that more tech startup founders would get such nominations as this in future editions.
