infinix zero 3

I am a passionate writer with a keen nose for the news and stories that matter. Sit back, relax and enjoy the tech ride with me as I take you into my own version of all things techie

I was given the finger recently over my perceived bias against Infinix phones. I guess people get it I really like Gionee phones. But it does not mean there is a policy of promoting one phone over the other here on TP. I like Infinix actually. I know I did convince quite a number of people to buy the best selling Infinix Hot when it came out. As late as last year, three friends got the phone through my recommendations.

Infinix succeeded in winning the hearts and minds of Nigeria with good specs, design and low cost. Those three are what drives the phone business in Nigeria and Infinix played the field really well.

But the Infinix Zero 3, is not your usual Infinix phone. Though a mid-range phone, the specs are high end, perhaps justifying the price tag on it. Without giving anything away, lets quickly take a look at the specs of this phone.

Dimensions, Design and Display

Released in December last year just in time for the holiday season, the phone at 142 x 70.2 x 7.1mm is slim enough and will sit comfortably in a medium-sized palm despite the sharp angles to the design.

Giving consumers a choice of six colors, the phone has a large display of 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. For added protection, the display is protected by the scratch-free Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Processor, Operating system, Memory
The Infinix Zero 3 comes with an Android 5.1 lollipop operating system. Hopefully, users would get updates to the newer version 6.1 soon enough.

Clocked at an impressive 2.2 GHz, the Infinix Zero 3 spots a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset supporting a RAM of 3G and a Mali 450 GPU to handle graphics.

The Infinix Zero 3 comes in two variants. The two models are differentiated by the size of the internal storage. The basic one comes with 16GB of space while the second model spots 32GB of internal storage. Both models have provision for expanding the total storage with a microSD card.

Photo lovers would be delighted with the primary lens of the Infinix Zero 3. Using a Sony IMX230 CMOS sensor, the 20.7 MP HDR camera is very capable of shooting 4K videos. The front camera is also quite good at 5MP and comes equipped with a LED flash for poor-light selfies. Though taking selfies with flash is not such a good idea, because pictures tend to be too bright.

In the era of 4K mAh batteries, users have to contend with the 3030 mAh Li-ion on the Zero 3. If the processor is optimized for energy consumption, the battery capacity would not be a problem for heavy users. The common complain about Infinix phones is that it gets hot rather easily. So the battery might be a bit of a disappointment.

Initially I said the Infinix Zero 3 is not your usual Infinix phone. Apart from the specs, what sets the phone apart is the price people are used to. At between 50,000 and 53,000 Naira, the price sort of reflects the specs. However it is not as steep as the Tecno Phantom 5, which apart from a few things, has similar specicifications

Apparently, the phone is a hit because last I checked, the phone was already sold out on the Jumia online store. So if you need the phone, you have to get it from offline vendors which I prefer in any case.
