Earlier, there was an IDC report claiming that 1.5 Million Nokia Android phones were sold during the first half of 2017. This news came via a tweet by Francisco, IDC Research Director. And it was confirmed by several other analysts. It was also believed that most of the sold Nokia devices is the Nokia 6 smartphone.

“So, most of the reported 1.5 million Nokia Android Phones sold in first half of 2017 may be the Nokia 6 which was only available in China. Now, as Chinese Nokia 6 users can not access Google Play store freely the Play Store installation numbers may reflect millions of phone sales in global market too.”

“Now, if we add Chinese sales numbers of 1.5 million to millions of active Nokia Android Phones globally already, we are looking at an impressive overall sales number for a startup like HMD.”

Well, in a turn of events and a great surge in sales, according to analyst firm Counterpoint, the company (HMD global) has sold a total of 16.3 million phones between July and September of 2017. From this figure, 2.8 million were smartphone sales and 13.5 million were feature phone sales. This is an interesting increase from the previous figures.

It is also interesting to note that Strategy Analytics Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service forecast global smartphone shipment will grow +5% in 2018. According to their forecast, “Apple and Chinese vendors, including Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, Transsion and Lenovo-Motorola etc., as well as Nokia (HMD) will be among the main vendors driving growth through 2018, with their 4G LTE products portfolios across multiple segments.”
HMD Global as a company are actually doing a very great job in the smartphone industry.

Recall that many, including us, were skeptical about their future when they first took on selling Nokia branded devices where questions were raised on whether Nokia would find its way into the hearts of users once more. Well, it seems like it’s happening already. Do tell us what you think.
