The launch of the Gionee S Plus in November last year proved one thing about Gionee as a serious player in the smartphone industry; that they are going to be here with us for a long time. Here is the thing about smartphones OEM’s: the modus operandi is to produce as many gadgets as possible in  quick order. This is to achieve three purposes,

1. Rolling out new products frequently ensures your brand stays in the forefront of buyers’ consciousness.

2. A wide array of phones gives buyers the impression they have choices to make

3. It is good for marketing.

The top phone brands also play the market that way; churning out new phones at dizzying speeds. But most times, it is hard to see the difference between a new brand and it’s immediate predecessor. It is mostly name change that does the trick.

So is the Gionee S Plus different from some of the other Gionee smartphones that came before or after it?

Have a look for yourself and judge.

Display and Dimensions
Measuring 155×76.4×7.5mm, the Gionee S Plus comes with a big display of 5.5 inches. The case has a metallic texture giving the 151.5 grams smartphone a glossy look. At a resolution of 720×1280 pixels, what you get from the this touchscreen smartphone would be crisp clear pictures and videos.

Gionee did not spare much in the name of quality as the display is protected by the impressive Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection.

Operating system, CPU, Storage and Memory
At the time of its release two months ago, the Gionee S Plus was based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, which, knowing Gionee, can be upgradeable to the latest version.

Under the hood, the smartphone is fitted with the MediaTek MT6753 chipset supporting an octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. To ensure multi-tasking is smooth and efficient, a huge 3GB RAM powers all applications in the Gionee S Plus.

With that RAM size, you would expect that nothing would be spared in the storage department. And so it is with this phone. The internal storage tops at a decent 16GB which can be expanded with the provisions of a microSD slot. A maximum of 64 GB is the allowable expansion of storage with a microSD card, which gives a total of over 70 GB to store your files. That is quite adequate for any user I must say.

Battery
This of course is always a strong point with Gionee. The phone is fitted with a non-removeable battery of 3150mAH. A fast charging feature in the phone ensures that you don’t have to waste hours waiting for the phone to be fully charged.

Camera
For those in love with pictures and videos, the Gionee S Plus comes with a primary camera of 13MP and a secondary shooter of 5MP. Be ready for some nice selfies with this phone because Gionee never disappoints with camera specs.

Price.
At the time it was launched in Nigeria, the phone came in at a decent 40000 naira give or take 1000. But with the exchange rate the way it is, expect to buy it for not less than 40000 naira.

So that is the Gionee S Plus at a glance. Did you notice shades of other Gionee smartphones integrated into this phone? Of course. This feels like a little bit of the best of all their phones. The specs are good and the price is not bad too. Basically, another good one from Gionee.
