Sometimes there could be nothing so frustrating about charging than having to carry “douchebag” wired chargers around. Even more frustrating is when the wires are compromised and the “douchebag” just won’t charge when you need them to. Well, is there any hope in sight for tech savy ,geeks or just about any one bored of those old chargers?
Ever heard of Nikola Tesla? In case you haven’t, the guy was probably the exact opposite of a “douchebag” , an amazing genius. Tesla was working on a revolutionary idea that would provide free wireless energy to the entire planet, unfortunately the person that financed the project had to shut it down because he just didn’t see anyway to make cool cash from it.( a classic example of douchebaggery if you ask me). Decades later Tesla’s revolutionary idea are bearing fruits.Thou not near genius as Tesla’s original idea but His wireless energy transmission concept is now being applied to build wireless chargers, devices that will soon change how we charge.
WHAT ARE WIRELESS CHARGERS AND HOW DOES IT WORK
Wireless chargers work by using an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two object .This is usually done with a charging station(charging plate). Energy is sent through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, which can then use that energy to charge batteries or run the device. Induction chargers as the are alternatively called typically use an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field from within a charging base station, and a second induction coil in the portable device takes power from the electromagnetic field and converts it back into electric current to charge the battery.

Wireless chargers are developed in form of a mat or pad on which you can place your phone on its surface and it starts charging. The current sourced from the wall power outlet moves along the wire in the wireless charger, creating a magnetic field which creates current in the coil. This coil is connected to the battery and the current charges the battery. The beauty of wireless charging still lies in the fact that it gives greater convenience and ubiquity.
Wireless charging may sound futuristic but just so you know , Toothbrushes were using wireless charging as early as 1990 (too bad I never got to use one).
The QI Standard..
Qi (the Chinese word for “energy flow“) is the universal standard for wireless charging of battery opererated devices like cell phones, iPods, MP3 players and cameras. It was Developed by the wireless power consortium. A device has to be Qi standard compliant to effectively use Qi wireless charging. Unfortunately very few mobile devices currently support wireless charging. The include few devices from Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC.

The charging stations which have been developed so far are getting larger. The original charging stations were big enough to host only one device at a time. They were also very restrictive as to where you had to put your device down on the
charger. Today, there are mats which have been developed which are large enough for multiple devices. The technology allows you to put your device down however you wish while still having the ability to charge your device efficiently.
Its particularly important to note that wireless charging takes more time to charge devices than normal wired method. Still wireless charging with its numerous potentials does not only have the ability to potentially change how we charge devices but also beef up safety during charging. In the very near future, instead of having to carry a charger around, experts speculates that airports, hotels, schools and other public places will install charging stations to enable mass device charging.
