Google Wallpapers app

I am tempted to belief Google were thinking of people like me when they launched a new app known as Wallpapers. The name of the app gives a everything away I guess. No need to bother thinking it is an ordinary name for something fancy. It is just an app to help your personalize your phone’s home screen. With all sorts of photos of course.

That is why I think Google was thinking about people like me when they created this app. I used to like changing wallpapers a lot. I mean, no wall paper, no matter how beautiful stayed more than a couple of weeks on my phone. It was fun and it was easy.

Sometimes it looked as if it was a sort of competition among friends to see who could search for and installed to best wall paper. And of course, if your girlfriend was beautiful and you loved her very much, you put her best pictures there too.

Suddenly it all stopped. Somehow I lost the passion for wall papers on my phone. Did I get old and wiser or just plain bored. Perhaps I figured I had better things to do with my online time than to go on a wall paper hunting spree.

I noticed my friends too lost their passion for wall papers too. Nobody seems to care about them anymore. At least, not anybody I know.

So with the launch of their new app from Google, one might think Google was trying to rekindle that passion in people like me.

Like any good collection of wallpapers, Google Wallpapers has some very good images that would certainly make your phone’s home screen come alive again. Some of the images include some amazing shots of architectural designs that would make you think Michelangelo did them to help Google in their quest to dominate the world.

Other images in Google Wallpapers include very awesome photography of some landscapes; abstract images you could use to give the impression that your knowledge of the arts goes deeper that the mundane stuff; and finally various shots from Google Earth.

Using Images from Google Earth is a nice touch from Google. With that, one would be able to choose from a limitless number of fantastic Google Earth images from around the world.

And if you are like a younger version of me that loved changing wallpapers frequently, Google just made things easy for you. There is a function in the app that, when enabled, automatically switches wallpaper for you everyday.

I think it would be nice if  users can import their own images into the app to make this last function even more interesting. With your personal images, you would then be able to make Google Wallpapers display new personal images for you everyday. How you arrange them would be restricted by your creativity.

In the euphoria of rushing to try out the new app, I think it is only important to remind you that wallpapers are just wallpapers. They only make your home screen look nice. If your phone is old and slow, the app won’t change that fact even if the phone is nicer to look at.

And don’t be too surprised if the wallpaper you use slow your phone down eventually. It happens with some apps especially if the phone is low on memory. So just bear that in mind that Google Wallpapers is all about aesthetics.

On the Wallpapers download page on Play Store, here is the pitch from Google about why you should download the app:

Make the most of your display with beautiful wallpapers and advanced features. Choose one of your own photos, an image from the Google Earth collection, a scenic landscape from Google+, and more. Change it as often as you like, so your phone always represents your style.

• Enjoy a collection that keeps on growing. Access images from Google Earth, Google+, and other partners.
• Double your fun. Show the world one wallpaper on your lock screen, and keep one for yourself on your home screen. (Requires Android™ 7.0, Nougat, and above.)
• Start each day fresh. Pick your favorite category and you’ll get a new wallpaper image each day.”

Okay, as a pitch for why to download an app, I expected nothing less than that.
