One of the trending technology updates is going for “retina display” – upgrading existing gadgets and integrating new ones with the technology. Apple Inc, the Cupertino based makers of the iMac is not left out: the company announced in a press release that the entire iMac family has been updated with retina display. The update saw the 21.5-inch iMac get a retina 4k display and the Retina 5K display to every 27-inch iMac. The 21.5 inch iMac comes with apixel resolution of 4096 x 2304 while the 27 inch model features a 5120 x 2880 pixel resolution.

Apart from the retina display update for the iMac, Apple pushed up the spec’s of the iMac with a few notable hardware upgrade. The 27 inch models now boost a 6th generation Intel Core processors alongside AMD high-performance graphics. Also, the smaller 21.5 inch model with Retina 4K display features a 5th generation Intel Core processor alongside intel Iris Pro graphics. The Retina 4K display also features a P3-based colour gamut that Apple says provides a 25 percent larger colour space, leading to better image detail and colour accuracy.
Another notable update is the three-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi on board that is capable of up to 1.3Gbps wireless networking. Two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options are also available in the updated iMac. The Thunderbolt 2 ports are capable of transferring data up to 20Gbps from a supporting external drive. The new iMacs also come with Apple’s new Magic Keyboards and Magic Mouse 2s,
which for the first time are all rechargeable, eliminating the need of replaceable AA batteries. Apple brings Force Touch to the desktop for the first with the Magic Track pad 2, it features a 29 percent larger surface than its predecessor.
Apple magic mouse is lighter and sturdier than most mouse in it class. (Or at least that is what Apple Inc. says)
The new Magic Keyboard features a full-size keyboard in a sleek new design that takes up 13 percent less space on your work desk. The new Magic devices pair instantly with your Mac as soon as they are plugged in via the Lightning-to-USB charging cable. You can quickly look up an image, preview a file or bring up a map from an address with the new Force Touch feature.
Despite the iMac family upgrade, the iMac mini continues to lack quad-core
processor upgrades of any kind. Also in this era of solid state disk (SSD) the iMac still plays Mr. Conservative gadget by sticking with spinning hard drives. Apple continues to charge a hilarious $200 fee for upgrading to Solid state disk (SSD).
