This is the fourth in our series previewing some of the cars that will be exhibiting at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. The show opens in 3 days. So grease all the moveable parts of your mental engine as we take another ride into the world of the latest automobiles on offer.
DS is really not a popular brand in these part of the world. DS started as a model under the Citroen group and has a very illustrious history. These days, the DS series of cars are produced under the Peugeot/ Citroën partnership. Two new DS vehicles will be displayed at the Frankfurt Motor show.
1. DS 4 – the DS range of cars have made a name for themselves as makers of premium quality compact hatchbacks to rival the best in the market like the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 series.
This cool car which can be bought with the option of a different roof color packs some rather nippy technology. There is the awesome Apple’s CarPlay featuring in the DS 4 car for the first time. The CarPlay is activated via a 7 inch touchscreen on the dashboard conveniently located within easy reach for the driver. You need to own an iPhone of course to enjoy the CarPlay feature.
Again there is DS connect which is a kind of SOS service in case of an accident, a breakdown or if the car is stolen. It is linked to a GPS receiver that alerts the relevant officials in case of any of those emergencies, pinpointing the car’s exact location.
The engine of the DS 4 is fully and completely turbocharged with 3 cylinders with a capacity of 1.2 liter. There is also a 1.6 litre variant with an option for a diesel engine.
2. DS 4 Crossback – this model of the DS range has one striking feature compared to the others. It has an all road makeover with a raised ride height and some body padding to give it the look and feel of a cross over SUV 4×4 compact van. The DS 4 Cross back sits 30mm higher than the regular car.
Though the DS 4 Crossback is not a 4 x 4 SUV, it has an intelligent traction system designed to make sure the car hugs the ground tightly on a slippery surface. Just like any good 4×4 SUV would do. The engine of the DS 4 Crossback is also fully turbocharged like the DS 4. Also under the hood is a 3 cylinder unit that comes in two variants: petrol and diesel
The stands of the DS would sure be a crowd puller at the motor fair even if people would be there just to sample the technology that are packed in the two DS models.
The Ferrari 458 Spider would be making its debut at the Frankfurt Motor show. The open-top super car has a huge reputation of being the most powerful drop-top ever to come out of Ferrari’s factory in Maranello.
Any mention of a new car from from Ferrari always comes with a vision of unheard of speeds and acceleration. And this car does not disappointed in that respect. With a 660 bhp 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 engine, the Ferrari 458 spider can reach a speed of over 90km/hr in just three seconds. It can hit over 350km/hr even with the top down. This clearly shows Ferrari took a lot of time and effort to make sure the stability of the car is absolute top notch at insane speeds.
Of course technological wonder machines like this don’t come cheap. Though the price is yet to be announced officially, it is expected to cost about £200,000 pounds. That is definitely a super car for the super rich.
