In the next few days, we would be looking at phones like the Oukitel K10000. These phones have one impressive standout feature, the huge battery capacity. Until now, the number one phone in terms of battery capacity on TP is the Gionee M5.

We would be restricting ourselves to Chinese smartphones because for now, they rule the roost in our local smartphone market. The reasons are obvious. The phone’s are cheap and the specs are very high-end relative to the price.

The Oukitel K10000 takes the outright number one spot just looking at the battery alone. At 10000 mAh, this smartphone is rightly described as the phone with the world’s biggest battery. Oukitel claims the battery can last 10-15 days on a single charge on normal usage. With a phone like this, the last thing on your mind would be if the public power supply is reliable or not.

Apart from enough juice to power your device for days on end, the smartphone like the Gionee M5 and the Huawei G Power, also supports reverse charging which means it is a de facto power bank, able to comfortably charge other devices. And to increase the battery life (Oukitel must have Nigeria in mind!), there is also the smart power consumption technology to increase the battery charge. And equally important is the fast charging capability of the phone. This can fully charge a depleted battery in about three and a half hours!

The Oukitel K10000 is much more than just the battery though. Announced in December last year, the phone comes with some impressive specs. The 10000 mAh battery is really very awesome if you consider the fact that basically, the phone is a mid-range smartphone.

Dimensions and Display
The Oukitel K10000 measures 143 x 77 x 9mm. The size of the battery must be responsible for the thickness and weight that stands at 184g. Even so, the phone is not too bulky which is a good thing.

The touchscreen IPS display has a size of 5.5 inch supporting a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels. A bit disappointing seeing that the huge battery can support a 1020p display comfortably. Though a 720p also gives good, sharp images.

Operating System, Storage and Memory
The Oukitel K10000 runs on the Android 5.1 lollipop platform. The chipset is the MediaTek MT6735 supporting a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU clocked at 1GHz. And a RAM of 2GB to comfortably runs the applications on the phone.

Internal storage of the phone is pegged at a decent 16 GB. A card slot is provided to expand the storage by a further 32 GB using a microSD card.

At 8 MP and 2 MP for the back and front camera respectively, what you get is definitely not a wow-inducing camera specs. Well, one can’t have it all especially in a mid-range smartphone.

Price and Availability
On some online stores like Gearbest, you can get the Oukitel K10000 through pre-order for $180. Nigerian online stores like Jumia are yet to stock the phone. In a whatsapp exchange with Kulimart, they also indicated the phone can be bought on pre-order though I was not informed of the price.
